So many enemies, so little time.
With COVID uncertainty lingering, people are setting their sights on ‘enemies’ for a sense of control.
“Germaphobes" are tangled in a contamination battle.
“With groceries I now make sure everything is 100% wiped down before it even enters my house. I then completely sanitize my car. My husband has to change in the garage when he gets home, put his clothes to wash, sanitize his hands, then come in and immediately take a shower before he can spend time with us.”
The skeptics among us see misinformation as the source for chaos.
“I’m not sure I believe all the hype going around with it. Right now people are dying in hospitals from cancer or other health conditions and doctors are told to label the cause of death Covid-19.”
“I’m trying to stay off Facebook. People forcing their opinions about the state of the world is unsavory and adding much un-needed stress.”
Big business is taking heat from small business. And small business is taking it from wary customers.
“I’m avoiding Amazon at all costs. Large grocery stores, Whole Foods and Amazon are experiencing record sales, while restaurants are bleeding money. It has been brutal for us.”
“I find myself cooking more now. I’m afraid the person preparing my food might have the virus, which can then be transferred to me in the process.”
Dynamics between friends and family are getting tense too.
“I have now seen sides of friends & family I didn’t know about. What I’m really disappointed with right now is those that refuse to help flatten the curve & still want to do things the same as they did before.”
“My view of my family and community shifted because I noticed they were a bit late to prepare with essentials and their health. It makes me feel like I cannot depend on them as quickly in a time of urgency.”
While we’re all looking to rally against an enemy, it seems we’ve yet to agree on a common one.
Makes you wonder what hyphens trigger some other people’s enemies.
Be it Elon Musk.
Be it armed protesters at the Michigan state Capitol.
Or even the president of the United States.
